Russian activity is not as intense as in previous elections, but it may increase in the coming months.
Microsoft Corporation says Russian online campaigns to influence the upcoming US presidential election have intensified over the past 45 days. However, this time their activity is less compared to previous American elections. Reuters wrote this on Wednesday, April 17.
“Accounts linked to Russia disseminate controversial content aimed at American audiences, particularly criticizing US support for Ukraine,” the agency reported.
Microsoft clarified that Russian activity is not as intense as in previous elections, however, according to company representatives, it may intensify in the coming months.
Remember that the two leading parties in the US must decide on their candidates at the national congresses. On July 15, 2024, the Republicans must officially determine their candidate, and on August 19, the Democrats. The debate and campaigning will continue in the coming months.
Election day is set for November 5, 2024. By January 6, 2025, Congressional votes should be officially counted, and on January 20, 2025, the inauguration of the president-elect will take place.
We remind you that Russia took first place in the world cybercrime ranking, which was made as part of a study by Oxford University and the University of New South Wales.
It was previously reported that Russian hackers from the Fancy Bear group, which was involved in interfering in the 2016 US elections, attacked seven European governments.
