Azerbaijan has repeatedly criticized France for supporting Armenia, as well as harsh rhetoric in its direction because of its actions in Nagorno-Karabakh.
France is recalling its ambassador to Azerbaijan, Anne Boyon, for consultations. This was stated on Tuesday, April 16, in a message on the official website of the country’s Foreign Ministry.
It was explained that the reason for such actions is that “continuous unilateral actions on the part of Azerbaijan cause damage to the relations between the two countries.”
“President Emmanuel Macron received the French ambassador and expressed regret about Azerbaijan’s actions, and also expressed a desire for the Azerbaijani side to clarify its intentions,” the statement said.
The French diplomatic office added that Paris is working to normalize relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia in compliance with international legal norms and territorial integrity of both countries.
It is known that Azerbaijan has repeatedly criticized France for supporting Armenia, as well as harsh rhetoric in its direction because of its actions in Nagorno-Karabakh. France, home to Europe’s largest Armenian diaspora, has stepped up defense cooperation with Armenia in recent months.
Azerbaijan demands that Armenian authorities immediately transfer control over four villages – Baganis Ayrim, Ashagi Askipara, Kheyrimli and Gizilgajili.
France will invite representatives of the ruling regime of the Russian Federation in honor of June 6, the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy, which opened the second front in World War II.
