The Washington Times notes that Arian Tabatabaei, who is suspected of collaborating with Tehran, continues to work in the department.
An Iranian agent is working in the Pentagon as the United States coordinates international efforts to protect Israel from Iranian attack. This was said by The Washington Times.
Assistant Defense Secretary Christopher Meyer told lawmakers last week at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing that Arian Tabatabaei remained employed in the office that oversees special operations and irregular warfare despite lawmakers’ concerns that the official was an agent of the Iranian regime.
Suspicions among lawmakers about Tabatabaei’s potential collaboration with the Iranian regime began last year when media outlets published hundreds of emails from Iranian diplomats from 2003 to 2021 that included reference to him.
In September, a group of 31 Republican senators wrote a letter to US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin demanding answers about Arian Tabatabai’s work at the Pentagon.
Concerns about Tabatabai resurfaced in the US last week, where Senator Tom Cotton said the Defense Department had only assured lawmakers it would follow protocols regarding the suspected Iranian official’s work.
Jewish National Security Institute of America employee Gabriel Noronha claims that Pentagon officials told him that European colleagues refused to participate in meetings with Tabatabai. The Pentagon needs to rethink its approach to security investigations, he said.
Biden administration officials have previously dismissed concerns about Tabatabai. A Pentagon official told The Times in September that he had been thoroughly and properly vetted and that the US government was “honored to have him in the service.”
As we have already written, on April 14, Iran launched a massive attack on Israel with missiles and drones in response to the recent airstrike on the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
The IDF subsequently reported that air defenses intercepted 99% of the more than 300 air targets fired by Iran.
In this regard, the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Mohammad Bagheri, called the operation “successful.”
