NATO plans to build the headquarters of the Alliance’s ground forces in Finland. This is what Norwegian Defense Minister Bern Aril Gramm said, reports Iltalehti.
It will expand the activities of the Joint Forces Command. The creation of a new command center would allow “all northern countries” to receive the benefits of NATO membership.
“I hope that we will be under the same command and part of the same regional defense plan. So, the Nordic countries will have joint deterrence and defense,” Gramm said.
The head office is located in the city of Mikkeli in southern Finland, approximately 100 km from the Russian border. The new command center will be subordinate to the Joint Forces Command in Norfolk (USA). At least 375 officers from NATO member countries will be sent to work in Mikkel.
Let’s remember that earlier the Secretary General of NATO said that the policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin experienced a strategic failure, because at the beginning of his war against Ukraine, two countries joined NATO, and the Ukraine is closer to membership in the Alliance than ever before.
