The International Atomic Energy Agency reported a drone explosion on the territory of the plant. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said there had been a hit.
The US State Department called on Russia to avoid actions that could lead to a nuclear incident at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, and to return control of the station to the competent authorities of Ukraine. This was announced on Monday, April 8, by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.
According to him, Washington is closely monitoring the situation at the Ukrainian nuclear power plant.
The State Department spokesman again called on Russia to withdraw its personnel from the Ukrainian nuclear power plant.
“We are familiar with reports of a UAV attack on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. We continue to monitor conditions at the plant,” Miller said.
According to the US foreign policy spokesperson, the official IAEA report, fortunately, says that damage from a UAV strike does not threaten nuclear safety.
Earlier, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi announced three direct hits on the protective structures of the main reactor of the Zaporizhia NPP. Rosatom has traditionally blamed the Ukrainian military for the strike, reporting injuries during the “strike.”
The Main Intelligence Directorate said that Ukraine was not involved in the explosions and other armed provocative actions of the aggressor country taking place on the territory of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, which is occupied by Russian troops. The drone strike near a reactor controlled by an aggressor country was a simulated Russian strike on the plant’s territory.
The previous day, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported a drone explosion on the territory of the plant. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said the agency received a report of a drone attack on one of the units of the occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
