The EU will invest in making the Armenian economy and society stronger and more resilient to shocks, the head of the EC said.
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the European Union will provide grants worth 270 million euros to Armenia over the next four years. He said this at a press conference called following the results of a trilateral meeting in the EU-US-Armenia format in Brussels on April 5, reports European reality.
We are talking about fulfilling the promise made in October – to be side by side with Armenia.
“This vision will be supported by the European Union’s Sustainability and Growth Plan for Armenia, which will provide €270 million in grants over the next 4 years. We will invest to make the Armenian economy and society stronger and more stable to shocks. We We will support your business, your talent, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, to help them grow, innovate and enter new markets. And we will invest in major infrastructure projects,” said von der Leyen.
He added that the latest support package builds on the success of the existing European Union Economic and Investment Plan for Armenia. He has already mobilized over half a billion in investments.
The head of the EC welcomed Armenia’s efforts to carry out democratic reforms and the measures taken by Armenia against the evasion of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
“This shows that the European Union and Armenia increasingly share values and interests. Now we will look at a broader partnership. And let’s advance this through a new and ambitious EU-Armenia Partnership Program,” said Ursula von der Leyen.
As reported, the Armenian authorities are discussing the possibility of the country joining the European Union. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan.
Let’s remember that on February 13, the European Parliament adopted a resolution to consider changing relations with Armenia in case it wants to get candidate status.
