The accused claimed that he only took his property. The court gave the husband a one-year probationary period and ordered him to read the story “Kaidashev’s Family.”
As stated in the court verdict dated March 28, at the end of May 2023, Vitaly Bondar entered private territory, tore off the lock from a utility building and took from there various accessories totaling 6,641 UAH. The man later damaged the door of the house and took out a plow and rotator that allegedly belonged to him. In court, he argued his actions by saying that he learned of his sister’s intention to sell the parental home she had inherited, so he decided to take back his property. He also noted that he warned his relative about his arrival.
At the same time, the victim said that she learned about the torn door in the house from a neighbor. The day before, her brother came to the household and said that he wanted to pick up the carts and tools. The victim then called the police, the accused drove away, but left a threatening note. According to the woman, her brother began coming to her after her husband was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ripping off locks, throwing things away, writing messages with threats and wishes of death.
The accused admitted his guilt and sincerely repented.
Judge Petr Tishkun found Vitaly Bondar guilty under Part 4 of Art. 185 of the Criminal Code (theft committed on a large scale or under martial law) and imposed a punishment of a year of probation.
In addition, the accused must read several works, including the story by Ivan Nechuy-Levitsky “The Kaydash Family”. The decision can be appealed to the appellate court.
Nechuy-Levitsky composed his work in 1879. This is a social and everyday story that shows the life of a Ukrainian village in the post-reform era (second half of the 19th century) with all its complexities and contradictions using the example of one family.
The main idea: condemnation of the individualism of selfish natures and the norms of folk morality, which are the main reasons for spiritual disunity in the family.
Main characters: Marusya and Omelko Kaidashi, their sons Karpo (senior) and Lavrin (junior), Motrya (Karp’s wife), Melashka (Lavrin’s wife); Baba Polazhka.
Composition of the work: the story consists of nine parts, the plot of which unfolds according to the principle of escalating episodes and scenes. It is the dialogues that “move” the plot of the work; they reveal the characters’ characters.
The plot of the work: a conversation between the brothers Karp and Lavrin about their upcoming marriage, the father’s irritation due to the idleness of his sons (exposition) – matchmaking and marriage of Karp (plot) – the gradual maturation of a conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, quarrels between family members, Lavrin’s marriage, Melashka on a pilgrimage in Kiev, Melashka’s return to Semigory, Kaidash’s death due to drunkenness (development of the action) – quarrels over a reel, an egg, a chicken, a mug, a rooster, a boar and a pear (culmination moments throughout the development of the action outlined ahead) – drying out of the pear) .
