Richard John Ramsay Burrows committed sexual abuse at a children’s home in Congleton and the West Midlands between 1969 and 1971, but was not wanted until later.
A pedophile who hid from trial for sexually abusing children for 27 years has been jailed in Britain. Cheshire County Police reported this on Tuesday, April 2.
Richard Burrows, 80, was reportedly detained at London’s Heathrow Airport after being returned from Thailand.
The investigation found that Richard John Ramsey Burrows committed sexual abuse at a children’s home in Congleton and the West Midlands between 1969 and 1971, but was later placed on the wanted list.
According to The Guardian, the man will be tried on charges of depravity and sexual assault.
“Our determination to find Burroughs has not wavered over the past 27 years, and his arrest marks a significant step forward in this case… I also hope that his arrest will serve as warning to other wanted suspects. No matter how long you hide, we will find you and arrest you,” said Police Inspector Eleanor Atkinson.
The police have been looking for the rapist since December 1997 – he did not appear in court and was put on the wanted list.
This year, Burrows is in jail in Thailand, where criminals from Britain often try to escape.
“I would like to thank the public for the information they have provided over the years in our search for Burrows and I hope that his arrest will bring some relief,” added Eleanor Atkinson.
We remind you that earlier in the Poltava region a man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the rape of a 12-year-old girl. A resident of the Rivne region was sentenced to seven years for raping the son of his ex-partner.
