Perhaps the only diplomatic process currently underway between Ukraine and Russia is the exchange of bodies of dead military personnel.
The exchange of bodies between Ukraine and Russia takes place with the participation of forensic experts from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The Telegraph wrote about it on Sunday, March 31, citing journalists who were able to accompany the Ukrainian delegation on one of these trips.
It is indicated that the exchange took place on the border with the Russian Federation in the Sumy region. This process is always stressful and dangerous.
Journalists said that in the exchange they attended, the Ukrainian convoy consisted of a police car, a car with forensic experts and a refrigerated van carrying the bodies of dozens of Russian soldiers.
“The column approached Russian territory, but did not cross the border,” they said.
Forensic experts from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) are examining the bodies at the border.
Journalists noted that a ceasefire was declared during the exchange, which lasted less than an hour, but the process remained tense.
“The border road must be cleared to allow the vans to pass and mine again when they return. The exchange is usually followed by snipers hiding in the trees at the edge of the fields,” said the journalists.
Journalists noticed that when the column with Ukrainian bodies returned, a corresponding rumor had already spread among local residents, so they knelt down to honor the Heroes. Many of them were crying.
The material noted that the repatriation of dead Ukrainian soldiers from the territories now occupied by Russia is part of a massive effort by Ukrainian government agencies.
As you know, Ukraine and Russia regularly exchange military bodies. The last time such an exchange took place was on March 15. Then we returned the bodies of 100 defenders. In two years of work, it is possible to bring home the bodies of more than 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers.
