The European Commission has put in place requests that have existed for many years. Some of them are already thriving, Anka Feldhusen said.
The Ukrainian authorities can easily cope with the seven requirements provided by the European Commission when making a recommendation to grant Ukraine the status of an EU member candidate. This opinion was expressed by the German Ambassador to Ukraine Anka Feldhusen at a briefing on Monday, June 20.
“I think Ukraine can easily cope, because in fact these are requirements that have been fulfilled for many years. There is already progress, probably not what the Ukrainians themselves want, especially in judicial reform. But “Ukraine is not the first time thinking, how can this be done. We, your partners, especially the G7, continue to interact with the government of Ukraine on these issues,” said the German ambassador.
According to Feldhusen, judicial reform has always been the most important for him, because it can really change the country.
“I think the decentralization reform has been successful – it’s really a success story. But the judicial reform is the second reform that really changes the country. In all the years of work in Ukraine, I follow the steps that has been done, taken to carry out judicial reform, and I will do so in the future, “he said.
Feldhusen also said judicial reform “hasn’t been easy”, but if there is political will, “a lot can be done.”
Recall that on June 17, the European Commission approved Ukraine’s application and recommended that the country be granted the status of a candidate for EU membership, followed by certain necessary steps.
The media also reported that the European Commission has proposed a mechanism to cancel the status of a candidate if Ukraine does not carry out reforms.
