Sébastien Lecornu emphasized that the government could requisition shares or ask companies to prioritize certain orders.
The French government is ready to use its powers to demand industrial capacity or prioritize arms manufacturers to speed up the production of weapons and ammunition needed on the Ukrainian battlefield. This is what French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu said in a press conference, Reuters reports.
“These issues… are on the agenda,” the official assured.
Stockpiles and production lines are particularly tight for anti-aircraft missiles and artillery shells, he said.
The official noted that he may request shares or ask companies to prioritize certain orders. In particular, we are talking about the Aster missiles produced by MBDA as a potential argument in favor of such a move.
He added that foreign demand for French-made weapons is high, especially for anti-aircraft missiles, artillery and radar systems introduced in Ukraine, but the country’s defense industry is struggling to keep up.
