In a recent interview, William Moseley, Pedro from Disney’s adaptations of “The Chronicles of Narnia”, commented on what he expects from the new version
Last year, fans of the “Chronicles of Narnia” franchise, created in the 1950s by the author CS Lewisreceived the excellent news that the new adaptation of the books by Netflix will actually happen, and that the filmmaker Greta Gerwigknown for directing the live-action “Barbie”, will be responsible for heading the production.
According to the platform’s CEO, Ted Sarandosin an interview with Time magazine (via Omelete), the new films “will be no different from how audiences may have imagined these worlds, but they will be bigger and bolder than they thought.”
On the other hand, in conversation with the Total Film podcast, Greta said she was “scared” by the adaptations, but that this would be a great sign.
“I haven’t even started to deal with the idea yet, but I’m already scared, which is a great starting point. I think being scared is always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, I’ll think ‘I should do this next’. But no, I’m terrified. It’s extraordinary and exciting,” Gerwig said.
In an interview with BBC radio 4, the director also pointed out that she has loved the saga since she was a child, and that she has the desire to do the adaptation correctly.
“I’m a little terrified because I really have a lot of reverence for Narnia. I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, CS Lewis is a thinker and writer. I’m intimidated by doing this. It’s something that seems worthy of intimidation,” Greta said. “As a non-British person, I have a particular feeling of wanting to do this properly… it’s like when Americans do Shakespeare, there’s a slight feeling of reverence and like maybe we should treat it with extra care. He is not our compatriot.”
After the information was released, many people were curious about what the original cast of the films released by Disney in the 2000s think about the new adaptation. In an interview with Bleeding Cool, William Moseleyinterpreter of Pedro Pevensie, said he was eager to check out the production, in addition to praising Greta Gerwigstating that everything the filmmaker touches “turns to gold”.
“In terms of what I think about Greta Gerwig’s directing, I think she’s incredible. ‘Barbie’ (2023) was an incredible film, and ‘Little Woman’ (2019) was brilliant. Everything she touches turns to gold, so I think Netflix is lucky to have her and I’m sure she will accept the challenge. I hope she enjoys it because it’s an incredible world to create and I can’t wait to see what she produces,” said Moseley.
Until the publication of this article, the new adaptation of “The Chronicles of Narnia” does not yet have a release date. The three versions produced by Disney, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” (2005), “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” and “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” ” (2010), are available through the streaming platform Disney+.
