Italy’s Prime Minister has warned about the “existential” threat that the Russian Federation poses to the EU.
Italian Prime Minister Georgea Maloney criticized the position of French President Emmanuel Macron, who did not refuse to send Western troops to Ukraine. He said such a move could lead to escalation. The politician announced this on Tuesday, March 19, in a speech in the Senate on the eve of the summit of European Union leaders, ANSA reports.
“With the proposal filed by France regarding possible direct intervention, our position is not in favor of this hypothesis, which is a reason for a dangerous escalation that must be avoided at all costs,” said Maloney.
At the same time, the head of the Italian government confirmed the support for Kyiv in the search for a “just world.” He emphasized that Moscow has been “systematically violating signed agreements and international laws” for years.
In his speech, the Italian Prime Minister also condemned Russia’s fictitious presidential election in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
We remind you that Ukraine and Italy have signed a security agreement.
