Ingrida Simonyte emphasized that the Kremlin is trying to create a fight between Poland and Lithuania, the two biggest fans of Ukraine.
The blocking of the Lithuanian-Polish border by Polish farmers to inspect vehicles for the re-export of Ukrainian grain is similar to the Russian Federation’s attempts to foment a conflict between Ukraine’s two allies. This is what the Prime Minister of Lithuania, Ingrida Simonyte, said, LRT reports.
Arguments that alleged Ukrainian grain, intended for transit through Klaipeda to third countries, changes its purpose in Lithuania and brought to Poland, resemble a hybrid operation, the official noted.
“An attempt to say that Lithuania is being used on some kind of grain carousel is very similar to the Kremlin’s attempts to fight between two of Ukraine’s biggest fans,” he stressed.
The head of the Lithuanian government stressed that such attempts have been made before.
“I would like to draw attention to the fact that peasant protests in European Union countries are one of the most discussed topics in the “programs” of Russian propagandists,” added the prime minister.
According to customs data, more than 100 thousand tons of Ukrainian grain were imported to Lithuania last year, and this is a very small amount compared to Lithuanian production, Simonyte said.
He added that regarding the intentions of Polish peasant groups to interfere with movement on the Lithuanian-Polish border, negotiations are ongoing not only with Polish departments, but also with the institutions of the European Union, as well as with protestors themselves.
From March 1, Polish farmers are preparing for two new blockades: at the former Polish-German border checkpoint in Šwiec and on the road near the former Lithuanian-Polish border checkpoint Kalwaria-Budzisko. Farmers will check the contents of trucks, especially agricultural cargo.
As we have already written, the Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture denies information that Ukrainian grain is exported through the country to Poland.
Let us remind you that the protests of Polish farmers continue on the Ukrainian border. Protest participants systematically spread Ukrainian agricultural products.
