The chancellor said he was disgusted by the “criticism” of refusing to provide Taurus to Ukrainian defenders, while Germany supplies Ukraine with more weapons than many other countries.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he was not moving Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine because they could hit targets in Moscow. The politician spoke about it on Thursday, February 29 reported at a meeting with the residents of Dresden.
“A cruise missile with a flight range of 500 kilometers is a weapon that, if used incorrectly, can hit a specific target somewhere in Moscow,” the chancellor said.
Scholz emphasized that Berlin transfers a large amount of military aid to Kyiv, but each delivery must be carefully considered.
The German Chancellor emphasized that if the Taurus is given, Germany would have to directly participate in the launch of the missiles, and “I believe that this is impossible,” Scholz emphasized.
We remind you that on February 22, the German parliament decided to recommend that the German government provide Ukraine with long-term weapons. Now the decision rests with Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
As is known, Ukraine has been calling Germany since last year to start supplying Taurus long-range missiles. The German company Taurus Systems GmbH said that they can quickly launch a new production of Taurus missiles, which is requested by Ukraine.
