The North Atlantic Alliance has pledged to respond to Moscow’s attempts to annex Moldova’s Transnistrian region. At the same time, NATO has doubts about Russia’s ability to carry it out. The Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Mircea Geoane, announced this on Monday, February 26, reports Realidadea.md.
“If Russia decides to annex Transnistria, NATO will condemn such actions and will continue to support the Republic of Moldova,” he said.
He pointed out that Putin planned to “squeeze Ukraine into a vice,” including because of the unrecognized “PMR”, where a certain number of Russian military personnel are still located, but “he does not have the strength to do this.”
The NATO spokesman added that fake “referendums” organized by Russia will never be recognized.
“They are completely invalid from an international point of view,” Joane emphasized.
The Deputy Secretary General of NATO suggested that at the congress of “deputies” announced for the end of February in Transnistria, it will probably be possible to announce not a “referendum”, but new trade agreements between Russia and ” PMR”.
We remind you that Moldovan President Maia Sandu does not exclude that in the next few years a “geopolitical opportunity” will appear that will allow the resolution of the conflict in the Transnistrian region.
