The representative of the German government, Christine Hoffmann, emphasized that the head of the German government will attend the conference of European leaders in Paris on February 26.
It is collected by Emmanuel Macron. He invited his European colleagues to the Elysee Palace for a working meeting to develop a way to counter the Kremlin’s claims that Russia will inevitably win the war against Ukraine. Another reason for the conference was the escalation of Russia’s anger in recent weeks.
We plan to send a clear message to the path that he will not win in Ukraine,” an adviser to the French president told reporters.
He added that this working meeting does not involve the announcement of new arms supplies to Ukraine, but will be in a brainstorming format – to improve efficiency on the ground, as well as to strengthen coordination between the allies and Ukraine.
Among the heads of state expected at the conference are German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Polish President Andrzej Duda, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, as well as leaders of the Scandinavian and Baltic countries.
The remaining states will be represented at the ministerial level. The USA and Canada will also be represented at the meeting.
On the eve of the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale attack on Ukraine, the German Bundestag voted to send long-range weapons systems to Ukraine. There were two attempts.
The first, opposition resolution on the supply of Taurus missiles was not supported. And they still voted for the second, coalition one, but the decision was still based on Olaf Scholz.
The second document specifically mentions “long-range missiles,” but is likely referring to the Taurus.
The Taurus aviation subsonic cruise missile is designed for high-precision destruction of enemy targets at a range of up to 500 km. This missile is similar to Storm Shadow and SCALP-EG in that they were all developed as part of a joint project.
