Europe’s largest ammunition manufacturer Rheinmetall will build a plant in Ukraine to produce artillery shells. About that reported press service of the German concern on Saturday, February 17.
It is indicated that the memorandum on the creation of a joint venture was signed in the presence of the Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Alexander Kamyshin and the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Alexey Makeev during the Munich Security Conference.
The new plant will produce six-figure quantities of 155 mm artillery shells per year.
Rheinmetall will own 51% of the shares of the joint venture, and the Ukrainian company will own 49%.
In the past, Ukroboronprom and Rheinmetall created a defense joint venture. This company will service and repair military equipment received by Ukraine from partners.
Rheinmetall also plans to start production of armored vehicles in Ukraine in 2024.
Rheinmetall is Ukraine’s largest partner. In particular, in 2022 the group accepted orders worth approximately 900 million euros, and in 2023 the volume of orders increased to approximately 2.5 billion euros.
