The leaders of the two countries agreed to maintain contact as the second anniversary of the start of Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine approaches.
President Vladimir Zelensky spoke on the phone with American leader Joe Biden. The Ukrainian head of state announced this on Telegram on Saturday, February 17.
“We discussed the current situation on the battlefield. I am glad that I can count on the full support of the American president. We also believe in the wise decision of the US Congress. Support for Ukraine is support for democracy and freedom. We must let’s defend these values together,” Zelensky wrote after speaking with Biden.
In addition, according to the president, he agreed with Biden to maintain contact as the second anniversary of the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine approaches.
Let’s recall that on February 13, the US Senate supported a package that provides more than $60 billion for Ukraine, mainly for military aid. But the Senate’s decision to appropriate the money is not enough – the bill must be passed by the House of Representatives.
In addition, on February 15, Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson ended the work week early and announced a nearly two-week break without considering the bill to help allies. The issue could now come before Congress in mid-March.
In turn, Joe Biden spoke strongly about the break that the congressmen made without considering the bill to help Ukraine.
