US Presidential National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said this during a briefing at the White House on February 14, Voice of America reports.
We need to face the truth: the United States provided a significant portion of the assistance, and the resulting gap cannot be fully filled by other allies and partners, Sullivan said.
To provide some of the capabilities that the U.S. has that other countries don’t, we need the authority to allocate and resource them so that we can replenish our own supply. So, when you put it all together, it’s simply not possible to replace US funding,” he added.
Sullivan recalled that US President Joe Biden personally called on Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson to bring the relevant bill to a speedy vote.
We know that if this vote reaches the House of Representatives, it will pass on the basis of an overwhelming bipartisan vote, as it did in the Senate, Sullivan assured.
Earlier in the day, Johnson said he had no immediate plans to vote on an international aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
Sullivan noted that the United States cannot wait any longer and emphasized that every day of delay costs the people of Ukraine and the national security interests of the United States.
According to him. if funding is cut off, the Ukrainians will continue to fight, but they will fight against less powerful positions. He noted that reports are increasingly coming in that Ukrainian troops on the front line are setting maximum allowable standards for the use of ammunition.
Ammunition is running low, and Russian forces continue to attack both from the ground and from the air, trying to deplete the Ukrainian air defenses that we have worked so hard to develop and fill over the past two years,” Sullivan said.
He noted that the whole world is now watching the US decision, both allies and enemies. Sullivan assured that the Biden administration will do everything possible to pass the additional funding bill in the House of Representatives.
