The French leader was expected to arrive in Ukraine on February 13-14. Macron’s visit was postponed due to security reasons and this decision raised many questions among both French and Ukrainian diplomats. In addition, the French-Ukrainian business association Medef International postponed its visit to Ukraine. This was reported by Challenges with reference to the Elysee Palace.
It is noted that Macron first had to visit Odessa and then go to Kyiv. In Ukraine, he was expected to announce the creation of a €200 million fund, paid in donations for civic projects. He also had to announce the arrival of the French Development Agency (AFD) as the coordinator of French assistance to Ukraine.
As you know, French President Emmanuel Macron last visited Ukraine in the summer of 2022. Then German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi were with him in Kyiv.
Let us recall that on January 18, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky had a telephone conversation with President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron. Based on the results of the conversation, in particular, political and military advisers were instructed to begin preparations for the upcoming visit of the French leader to Ukraine.
