In June 2023, two people convicted of the activist’s murder were sentenced to 10 years in prison. The ex-head of the Kherson regional council, Vladislav Manger, was found guilty of ordering the attack, and his assistant Alexei Levin was found guilty of organizing it.
On February 5, a meeting was held at which the appeal in this case was considered. According to the chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Speech, Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, the defense is trying to delay this case as much as possible: Levin allegedly has a heart problem, which is why he cannot be in custody, and an ambulance was called for Magner due to blood pressure and temperature.
Yurchyshyn wrote about this on his Facebook page.
It will be possible to bring the perpetrators to criminal liability only until 2028, because the attack on Katya Handzyuk occurred in 2018. Those involved in the murder of the activist have already managed to drag out the case for more than five years.
