The mayor of the city, Igor Terekhov, stated this during a meeting of the Regional Office for International Cooperation of the Kharkov Region, the press service of the Kharkov City Council reports.
According to him, as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in Kharkov, the following was damaged:
- 65% of healthcare institutions;
- 56% educational institutions;
- 35% of cultural institutions.
In 2024, we set a goal to restore 57 schools that were damaged to one degree or another, and another 157 multi-storey buildings,” Terekhova noted.
In addition, Terekhov, during a meeting with experts from the Housing Initiative for Eastern Europe, implemented under the patronage of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, noted that as a result of shelling, more than 150 thousand citizens lost their housing, so today there is a need not only for the restoration of damaged houses, but also for housing construction.
We would like to take as an example the post-war reconstruction of Germany, when the city is the customer for the construction of housing and can then rent out this housing for a long-term lease with the right of purchase for citizens,” he noted. “It would be much cheaper for people than buying apartments at market prices from commercial developers, which is important given the number of victims of Russian aggression now.”
