Find out who the actors are, when it premieres and the main information about “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, the new Netflix series
The countdown to the premiere of “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, a live-action adaptation of the animation shown by Nickelodeon between 2005 and 2008 under the title “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, is close to reaching end.
Thus, various information about the series that is being produced by Netflix has already been released, including the names that make up the cast, previews in video and photo format and the premiere date, for example. Therefore, RECREIO, thinking of bringing together the main news about the plot in one place, has listed below everything that is already known about the new version. Look!
1. Plot
The synopsis revealed by Netflix tells what the plot of the work will be when he says: “Water, earth, fire and air. The four nations lived in harmony with the Avatar, master of all four elements, maintaining peace among all. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and exterminated the Air Nomads, so the firebenders could conquer the world. With the disappearance of the Avatar, the world lost hope.
Hope resurfaces when Aang, the last Air Nomad, awakens as the new Avatar. Alongside Sokka and Katara, members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a journey to save the world and fight the fearsome Fire Lord, Ozai. But it won’t be an easy task, since Zuko, prince of the Fire Nation, is determined to capture them. They will need the help of many allies along the way.”
2. Different format
In an interview with SFX Magazine, the showrunner Albert Kim revealed that the series will not follow the same format as the animation, as it featured one adventure per week, while the Netflix production fits better with what Kim called it a “serialized drama.”
The showrunner also said that the change was not made “just to change”, but no details were provided about what method the streaming platform would use.
Furthermore, the original animation had three seasons, where each of them, called “books”, represented an element. It is not yet known whether Netflix will follow this same logic.
3. Changes to the story
In the same chat, Kim explained that the series will expand the animation universe by including new information, such as one of the cruelest moments of the 100 Year War: the attack on the Southern Air Temple, the place where Aang grew up.
The original series never shows the Fire Nation attacking the Southern Air Temple, and that’s something we see in our version,” he said.
4. Cast
To bring the characters to life, the cast relies on Gordon Cormier (Lost in Space) as the protagonist Aang, while Kiawentiio Tarbell (Anne with an E) brings Katara to life and Ian Ousley (13 Reasons Why) plays Sokka.
In addition to them, Dallas Liu(Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is Zuko, Elizabeth Yu (Somewhere in Queens) is in the shoes of Azula, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (The Mandalorian) plays Uncle Iron, Ken Leung (Rush Hour) receives the role of Commander Zhao and Daniel Dae Kim (Lost) lives Fire Lord Ozai.
please note that Albert Kim (The Legend of the Headless Horseman) is the director of the story, in addition to acting as showrunner, executive producer and writer for the series.
