Borrell noted that Russia’s war against Ukraine is a stark reminder of the critical importance of collective defense of UN core principles.
EU High Representative Josep Borrell said that despite EU sanctions against Russia, the war against Ukraine continues. The intensity of the hostility at the front is growing. He said this at the EU-Central Asia transport investment forum.
According to Borrell, Russia’s war against Ukraine is a powerful reminder of the critical importance of joint defense of the UN’s core principles. This is the best way to ensure world peace and security.
“The sovereignty and independence, the territorial integrity of any country must be indisputable. And we must avoid returning to a world where “one can do right” and where powerful nations can change borders unilaterally ,” he says.
Borrell emphasized that in order to protect these principles, the EU introduced significant sanctions against the Russian Federation, which significantly weakened its military machine.
“But they are still there, and the war continues. And, if I may say so, the intensity of the conflict is increasing, and we do not see the light at the end of the tunnel,” said the EU high representative.
He added that for anti-Russian sanctions to be effective, full cooperation of partners is needed.
“We closely monitor the trade between us, between the countries of Central Asia, with them and Russia. We are trying to study which mechanisms allow us to avoid sanctions. We must strengthen our cooperation with this thing,” Borrell emphasized.
Let us remind you that the High Representative of the European Union believes that it is necessary to strengthen support for Ukraine, in particular, with the help of longer-range missiles.
