These refurbished missiles have already been returned to army depots. Ammunition, if necessary, can be used both for target practice and for combat operations. In total, this restoration program helped Washington save almost $50,000. for each rocket. Now one ammunition for the Stinger costs almost 120-150 thousand dollars. The US Army announced this on Facebook.
The Stinger MANPADS missile refurbishment program began in 2017 at the McAlester Ammunition Plant. And it increased its capacity after Russia invaded Ukraine.
In 2022, money was allocated for the restoration of about 2 thousand 700 missiles. The US Army will be able to receive about 70% of the recovered missiles from the total number that were previously considered unusable.
Let us recall that in January the German armed concern Rheinmetall repaired for Ukraine two of the 14 Leopard 2 tanks purchased for the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the Netherlands and Denmark. The armored vehicles have undergone a major overhaul.
