Coffins are becoming more expensive in Russia

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the average cost of a coffin in Russia has increased by more than 22.2%. Prices for digging graves are also rising at a record pace.

In Russia, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, the cost of funeral services and goods has increased dramatically. In particular, since the beginning of the large-scale war, coffins have increased in price by more than 22.2%. The Moscow Times reported this on Wednesday, January 24, citing Rosstat statistics.

It was noted that in the first year of the war, coffins increased in price by 15.82%, and last year by another 5.55%.

Considering 2021, when Russia, in the midst of a pandemic, experienced a mortality rate unprecedented in modern history, the cost of the coffin increased by 36.6%. As a result, the growth accumulated in the last three years has been a record for the last 13 years.

At the same time, according to Rosstat, the cost of “digging graves” is increasing at a double-digit rate. Last year, the increase in prices for this service reached 11.25% and was the maximum for the entire period of available statistics (since 2016). In total, during the two years of the war, digging graves became 20.6% more expensive.

According to the executive director of the Union of Funeral Organizations and Crematoriums, Elena Andreeva, the increase in prices for funeral services is related to the “increase in the price of the main purchased products” – wood and metal.

Let’s recall that, according to the General Staff of Ukraine, the total combat loss of enemy personnel from February 24, 2022 to January 24, 2024 is approximately 378,660 people. In the past 24 hours alone, 840 conquerors have been liquidated.
