This was reported today, January 24, by the Ukrayinska Pravda publication.
The defense of the accused asked to stop the case, since two defendants – Yana Dugar and Andrei Antonenko – serve in the army. Dugar has been mobilized, Antonenko is serving under a contract:
- combat medic Dugar clarified that she occupies a leadership position and is engaged in the evacuation of fighters from the battlefield;
- Antonenko explained that he was fighting in one of the important areas.
The third person involved, Yulia Kuzmenko, said that she also travels to the front-line regions as a doctor.
It is noted that the victims – Sheremet’s mother and daughter, as well as the founding editor of the Ukrainskaya Pravda publication, where Sheremet worked, Elena Prytula – supported the postponement of the consideration. Their lawyer also serves in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, so the victims had previously asked to suspend the trial until the end of the war.
In June 2023, it became known that the trial in the Sheremet case, which at that time had lasted almost three years, would begin over again, since two of the three jurors could not participate in the trial:
- one of them was mobilized into the National Guard;
- the other went abroad.
A new jury was selected, so the case was started over.
