Russian citizens will not be able to obtain Ukrainian passports after the adoption of the law on multiple citizenship. The list of countries where it will be allowed will be regulated. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba announced this on Monday, January 22, during a telethon.
“We went to this decision for a very long time, and thought through everything to the smallest detail. And the document, the bill that the president introduced, it is really key to launching this mechanism. But to launch it, there are already other bills, which, however, , it does not work without the president,” he said.
The Foreign Minister emphasized that these bills contain guarantees to prevent the abuse of multiple citizenships.
“It is clear that Ukraine does not include the possibility of multiple citizenships among citizens of the aggressor country,” Kuleba said.
The Foreign Minister also assured that there is “no danger” of erosion of sovereignty through the institution of multiple citizenships.
It is known that the document will allow all ethnic Ukrainians and their descendants in different countries of the world to have citizenship.
