The procedural director of the case emphasized that we are talking about the events not 10 years ago, but 2020-2021.
The Office of the Prosecutor General denies the existence of political motivation or pressure in the business affairs of the founder of the investment company Concorde Capital, Igor Mazepa. This was said by the head of the procedure of this case, prosecutor Evgeniy Sleta, during the telethon.
Slyata noted that the proceedings regarding the theft of strategic lands of the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant refer to events not 10 years ago, but 2020-2021. According to him, the investigation was launched in 2021 and was combined with another one, which involved the acquisition of lands within the dam of the Kyiv hydroelectric station.
“Joint production is automatically assigned the number of production that started earlier,” he explained.
According to him, there is reason to believe that Mazepa intentionally left Ukraine to avoid criminal liability.
“Investigators have sufficient grounds to believe that the suspect knew that at the end of last year, in the same proceedings, a group of eight people were brought under suspicion. Six of them were taken into custody, one person was placed in wanted list. Therefore, according to the investigation, the suspect attempted to leave Ukraine on January 18,” explained Sleta.
The prosecutor emphasized that the court, when choosing a preventive measure, confirmed the validity of the suspicions and dangers pointed out by the prosecution.
Evgeniy Sleta noted that the preventive measure should ensure that the suspect fulfills procedural obligations and avoid attempts to hide from the investigation, and the amount of the bail should not duplicate the amount of the damage.
“Considering that these individuals have significant financial capabilities, and have also acquired a lot of movable and immovable property as a result of criminal procedure, the appropriate amount of bail has been determined. There is no political motivation or pressure on business in this case,” he added.
We remind you that recently, while trying to travel abroad, the head of the investment company Concorde Capital, Igor Mazepa, was detained, suspected of organizing a scheme for the illegal acquisition of lands where hydraulic critical infrastructure structure – the Kyiv hydroelectric power station – is located. Also, three other members of the organization, including the organizer’s brother, were detained in different regions of Ukraine. DBR proposed to set them bail of 700 million and 500 million hryvnias. However, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention with the alternative of posting bail in the amount of 349 million Hryvnias.
