The new Minister of Culture canceled the order of the previous government, which prohibited any communication or cooperation with Russia and Belarus.
Slovakia’s Ministry of Culture lifted the ban on cultural cooperation with Russia and Belarus. This decision was made by the new minister Martina Shimkovicheva, reports the publication Pravda on Saturday, January 20, which has the corresponding order for its disposal.
The Ministry of Culture told reporters that “there are dozens of military conflicts in the world and artists and culture should not pay” for it.
The corresponding order, according to Pravda, began on January 15.
The publication recalls that a week after the start of a large-scale war in Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture of Slovakia, still under the leadership of former minister Natalia Milanova, issued an order to stop any communication or cooperation with Russia and Belarus. According to Milanova, the department took a clear position immediately after the start of the war in Ukraine, condemning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
We remind you that one day before one of the biggest rallies against the Fico government took place in Slovakia. Tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets to protest against law enforcement reform.
As we already wrote, Fico supported Hungary’s blocking of 50 billion euros for Ukraine. He believes that this money should be divided into separate tranches that can be modified or blocked at each opportunity.
