The mailing is mainly aimed at government agencies and contains files that, when launched, download malicious computer programs to collect confidential data.
The Security Service of Ukraine on Thursday, January 18, reported cases of phishing emails containing malicious files. Mailing is carried out on behalf of the SBU, but in reality is not connected to the Security Service.
“The Security Service of Ukraine discovered phishing e-mails sent allegedly on behalf of the SBU. The mailings were mainly aimed at government agencies. At first glance, these letters seem genuine, but in fact they have nothing to do with the SBU,” the intelligence service said.
It was noted that these letters contain files and applications that, when launched, download malicious software to the user’s computer to collect confidential data.
The SBU explained that the fake mailings could be used by Russian intelligence services for espionage and information gathering.
The SBU Cybersecurity Department urges you not to open files from unknown subscribers via email, instant messenger or SMS.
“If you receive such emails, do not click on links or download files and programs. If this happens, reinstall your computer’s operating system and report this incident to the SBU via telephone: 0 800 501 482 and by email: callcenter@ssu .gov .ua,” the information of the intelligence service.
Earlier, Ukrenergo reported about fraudsters acting on behalf of the company.
