To avoid a shutdown, the US government’s budget must be adopted by January 19. Congressmen have already agreed on this.
Voting on the US government’s next interim budget is due this week. Congressmen of both parties have agreed on the draft legislation, Politico reports, citing its sources.
It was noted that during the negotiations between the factions, a plan was developed that provided for the allocation of funds to extend the functioning of federal institutions until March 1, and in rare cases until March 8.
To avoid a shutdown (stoppage of work of federal services due to lack of funds), the bill must be passed before January 19. According to the publication, Congress will vote on this project this week.
On January 8, Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Republican Mike Johnson announced that the factions had agreed to draft a budget for the rest of the fiscal year at $1.66 trillion, including $886 billion for defense.
Budget negotiations are being conducted separately from consideration of the White House’s multibillion-dollar requests for aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
Let’s remember that the previous agreement to avoid the shutdown was announced on January 7.
Do they have a plan: when will Ukraine receive aid from the United States?
