North Korea said the missile, launched from the Pyongyang area, flew about 1,000 km from the country’s east coast.
North Korea said its missile command tested a solid-fuel medium-range ballistic missile equipped with a hypersonic, maneuverable guided warhead. This was reported on Monday, January 15, by the DPRK state news agency KCNA.
It is said that the purpose of the tests was to test the systematic and maneuverable characteristics of a medium-range hypersonic guided warhead and the reliability of high-thrust solid-propellant multi-stage engines.
South Korea’s military said the missile, launched from the Pyongyang area, flew about 1,000 km from the country’s east coast, while Japan’s defense ministry said the maximum altitude was at least 50 km. The shell fell outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
Let’s recall that the South Korean military previously announced the launch of a medium-range ballistic missile.
