The new drone can be used to identify targets on the front line to engage other UAVs or weapons systems, the sources said.
Iran has developed a new version of the Shahed-107 kamikaze attack drone, which can be used by the aggressor country Russia. This was reported by Sky News, citing security sources on Wednesday, January 10.
The new vehicle is described as an “explosive and reconnaissance” UAV, likely equipped with technology to seek out combat targets.
It is said that several units of the specially designed drone may have been offered to Russia as part of a deal worth more than $2 million.
This reflects the “significant engineering force Iran is building to support Russia’s interests vis-à-vis Ukraine,” the source said.
The new Shahed-107 drone belongs to the Shahed-101 family of V-tail unmanned aerial vehicles. The drone, which is about 2.5 meters long and has a wingspan of three meters, can be launched from a vehicle and is estimated to have a range of up to 1,500 km.
It is likely to be equipped with a video transmitter. Such reconnaissance capabilities mean the drone can be used to identify targets on the front line to engage other UAVs or weapons systems.
A security source said Iran’s security forces conducted tests involving the Russians at an airbase in central Iran, which included Shahed-107 and Shahed-136 drones.
Let’s recall that in September a video appeared online of the new Iranian Shahed-136 OWA drones equipped with a turbojet engine.
And on January 9, communications and radio electronics specialist Sergei Flesh Beskrestnov said that the first Shahed-238 with a jet engine, recently demonstrated by Iran, was shot down in the sky of Ukraine.
Let’s add that the Ukrainian Air Force admitted that the new Shahed-238 is more difficult to detect.
