The Israeli army has moved to a less intensive phase of the operation and will reduce the number of ground forces and airstrikes.
The IDF believes that Hamas’s military capabilities in the Gaza Strip have been significantly reduced, so Israel will move from large-scale maneuvers to targeted raids in the center and south. Israel also promises to deliver humanitarian aid and tents.
Meanwhile, the South Korean National Intelligence Service (NIS) confirmed information that Hamas militants are using weapons from the DPRK in the war against Israel.
Earlier, reports appeared in Western media that weapons from North Korea are getting to Iran, and Iran itself is transferring them to Hamas.
Also on January 5, the Korean service of the Voice of America published a photograph in which one can see a shell from an F-7 grenade launcher with markings made in the DPRK.
One of the top commanders of Hezbollah’s elite Raduan forces was killed in southern Lebanon. We are talking about Wissam al Tawil, nicknamed Jawad. His car was hit by a rocket, probably Israeli. This happened 15 km from the border. Hezbollah confirmed the death of the commander.
During the war between Israel and Palestinian Hamas, Hezbollah lost more than 130 fighters. A Lebanese group backing Hamas and financed by Iran is shelling Israeli border areas. Israel responds by striking southern Lebanon.
On January 2, Saleh al-Arouri, number two in the Hamas hierarchy, was killed in a drone attack in Beirut. This raised fears among the international community that Lebanon would be drawn into war.
Blinken’s visit
On Monday, January 8, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrives in Israel on an extended visit to the Middle East.
Blinken has already visited Jordan and Qatar, traveled to the United Arab Emirates on Monday morning, then to Saudi Arabia and will later land at Tel Aviv airport.
After negotiations with Netanyahu, the US Secretary of State will meet with the head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, and the President of Egypt, Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi.
According to many analysts, in trying to prevent the escalation of the conflict in the region, Washington will first of all want to enlist the support of Iran’s adversaries.
Washington fears that the war between Israel and Hamas could spread to the entire region. Preventing further escalation and settlement in the Gaza Strip are the main issues that the head of the State Department discusses during his trip.
