In the Red Sea, the Houthis attacked a merchant ship flying the Singaporean flag. US troops responded.
The United States on December 30 fired two anti-ship missiles aimed by Yemen’s Houthis at a container ship in the Red Sea. About that reported US Central Command on social media X.
The container ship Maersk Hangzhou said it was hit by missiles while passing through the southern Red Sea. The Singapore flag ship, owned and operated by Denmark, requested the assistance of two American destroyers, Graveley and Labon.
“During the response, the US Graveley shot down two anti-ship ballistic missiles fired from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen towards the ships,” US Central Command said.
They added that after the attack was defused, the Maersk Hangzhou container ship was fit for navigation and there were no casualties.
This is the 23rd unlawful Houthi attack on international shipping since November 19, it said.
Let’s recall that on December 18, the Pentagon announced the start of a special operation called Hourly Development to protect shipping in the Red Sea.
