Since February 28, 2022, Norwegian authorities have banned all Russian aircraft from using the kingdom’s airspace, but because human life is at stake, an exception has been made.
Norwegian authorities allowed a Nordwind Airlines plane to return to Moscow through the kingdom’s airspace because there was an emergency on board, the NRK TV channel reported.
Avinor recalled that from February 28, 2022, the Norwegian authorities banned all Russian aircraft from using the kingdom’s airspace, but because human life was at stake, an exception was made.
“The medical emergency on board allowed him to get permission to use Norwegian airspace,” the channel quoted Katherine Framholt, a spokeswoman for Avinor, which operates most of Norway’s airports, as saying.
The Nordwind Airlines Boeing 777 was reportedly flying from Moscow to the resort town of Varadero in Cuba.
It was previously reported that Norway is ready to follow Finland in closing the border with Russia. The country’s authorities are carefully monitoring the situation and are ready to quickly close the border if necessary.
