Ukrainians were encouraged to use Wi-Fi networks whenever possible, and public institutions were encouraged to make their own Wi-Fi available to all users.
In Ukraine, the national roaming service is temporarily blocked for Kyivstar subscribers. This was announced on Wednesday, December 13, by the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine (Gosspecial Communications).
The department recalled that yesterday a strong cyber attack was carried out on Kyivstar. The operation of the company’s main services was blocked.
“In order to avoid overloading the networks of other operators, at the request of the SBU, the National Center for Operational and Technical Management of Telecommunications Networks issued an order to temporarily block the national roaming service for subscribers of Kyivstar ,” the statement said.
Ukrainians were urged to remain calm and use Wi-Fi networks whenever possible, and public institutions were urged to make their own Wi-Fi accessible to all users.
Earlier on Wednesday, Russian hackers from the Solntsepek group claimed responsibility for the cyberattack on Kyivstar, declaring the destruction of “10 thousand computers, more than 4 thousand servers.” In this regard, Kyivstar denied the claims of Russian hackers.
At the same time, it became known the other day that the consequences of the hacker attack were worse than imagined. Removing them can take from a day to a week, or more. But Kyivstar has partially restored fixed-line services.
