Officials knew about their colleague Jack Teixeira’s intelligence activities but did not stop him, and he published dozens of classified documents online.
In the United States, 15 officers of the US Air National Guard were punished: they were accused of not stopping their junior colleague Jack Teixeira and not preventing the publication of secret documents on the Internet. The BBC reported it.
It was noted that officials “knew about his intelligence activities, but they were unable to stop him”, but emphasized that none of his superiors knew the full extent of Teixeira’s actions.
Teixeira published dozens of classified documents online, prosecutors said, in one of the biggest leaks of US intelligence in years.
It was noted that Teixeira, 21, worked as a junior specialist in cyber defense operations in the 102nd Intelligence Division of the US Air National Guard. Unit leaders were aware of four incidents of Teixeira’s “questionable activity” related to his access to classified material, and several officers were aware of other incidents but did not report them because for fear of “press overreaction.”
There was also a reported lack of proper supervision during night shifts.
Let’s recall that in the spring the American edition of the New York Times reported that allegedly classified documents appeared on Twitter and Telegram with details of US and NATO plans to strengthen the Armed Forces of Ukraine before the planned counter-offensive. According to the publication, the Pentagon is allegedly investigating who may be behind the “leak” of the documents.
The Office of the President of Ukraine then clarified that Russia was behind this “leak”, and that “the enemy will soon see the real plans of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the battlefield.”
