Now doctors recognize “secondary” cases of infection in family units, that is, in relatives of patients who have not expressed the desire to be vaccinated.
The outbreak of viral hepatitis A in the Vinnytsia region has been eliminated. However, isolated cases of the disease are possible. This was said by the chief sanitary doctor of Ukraine, deputy head of the Ministry of Health Igor Kuzin, the press service of the department reports.
“The outbreak is ending: the number of both hospitalized and new cases in the Vinnytsia region is decreasing, which proves the effectiveness of anti-epidemic measures and the absence of a permanent source of infection. However, due to the long period of egg incubation (14 -28 days, – ed.) and the possible asymptomatic course of the disease at least for one to two months we will still register isolated cases of hepatitis A. Now doctors see of “secondary” cases of infection in family units, i.e. relatives and friends of patients who did not express a desire to be vaccinated against hepatitis A during free emergency vaccination of a circle of contacts person,” he said.
According to Kuzin, from October 16 to December 7, 333 cases of the disease were confirmed in the laboratory. 30 patients are currently being treated, 267 people have been discharged.
Ukraine’s chief sanitary doctor also said that more than two thousand doses of vaccine have been delivered to localize the spread of viral hepatitis A. About seven hundred medical workers, including hospital workers, ambulance workers and public health specialist involved in eliminating the outbreak, received free vaccinations.
In addition, relatives of patients with a confirmed diagnosis are vaccinated. 151 people received such vaccination.
We remind you that in the Vinnytsia region, on December 1, 323 cases of hepatitis A were confirmed in the laboratory. In total, 385 cases of the disease were recorded in the region, 54 of which were among children.
As reported, cases of hepatitis A were found in Transcarpathia and the Dnepropetrovsk region, as well as in the Lutsk community of the Volyn region.
