In 2023, an average of 479 enterprises per month ceased operations in Ukraine. This number is almost three times lower than in 2021, when 1,290 companies closed each month. This was reported by the open data platform Opendatabot.
The largest number of businesses closes in Kyiv: 893 companies, in second place is Lviv region, where 526 companies closed, and in third place is Dnepropetrovsk region – 479 businesses.
Public organizations closed the most – 1,068 companies. Wholesale trade enterprises are in second place – 826 enterprises. The ranking was completed by companies in the agricultural sector – 492 enterprises.
At the same time, the percentage of company closings due to bankruptcy increased during the war.
17% of companies have undergone bankruptcy proceedings. In 2021, the share of companies facing bankruptcy proceedings is 5.1%.
The most high-profile bankruptcy of the year was the closing process of the Ukrainian airline UIA, associated with Igor Kolomoisky.
However, it is not the largest enterprise that has ceased operations since the beginning of a large-scale war: the Mariupol Ilyich Metallurgical Plant, Azovstal and one of the companies in the WOG network.
