This could lead to a major development in the series of naval attacks in the Middle East related to the Israeli-Hamas war.
A US warship and several commercial vessels were attacked on Sunday, December 3, in the Red Sea. Politico reports this in connection with the US Department of Defense.
“We are aware of reports of attacks on the USS Carney and commercial vessels in the Red Sea and will provide information as it becomes available,” the Pentagon said, without specifying where the ships came from.
The publication notes that this potentially means a serious escalation in a series of naval attacks in the Middle East related to the war between Israel and Hamas.
Politico also recalls that the British military announced a possible attack by an unmanned aerial vehicle and explosions in the Red Sea. In addition, Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have carried out a series of shipping attacks and launched UAVs and missiles towards Israel.
An unidentified US official said the attack, which lasted more than five hours, began around 10:00 in Sanaa, Yemen.
Let’s remember that on November 27, the Yemeni Houthis fired ballistic missiles at a US Navy destroyer.
Earlier, the Yemeni Houthis shot down an American military drone MQ-9 off the coast of Yemen.
