On Sunday, December 3, the co-author of the Act of Proclamation of State Independence of Ukraine, one of the founders of the People’s Movement of Ukraine, Leontiy Sandulyak, died. Chernivtsi Regional Council reported this on the social network.
“At the age of 87, Leonty Ivanovich Sandulyak, the first Ambassador Extraordinary Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Romania, co-author of the Act of Proclamation of State Independence of Ukraine, honorary citizen of the city of Chernivtsi, died,” the message said. .
Leonty Sandulyak was the first doctor of medical sciences, professor from the village of Kozyryany, Kelmenets district, Chernivtsi region, where he was born.
He was the first chairman of the Chernivtsi regional organization of the People’s Movement of Ukraine. He is also one of the founders of the People’s Movement of Ukraine.
Sandulyak was the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Romania and co-author of the Act of Declaration of State Independence of Ukraine.
The Verkhovna Rada approved the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine on August 24, 1991; the December referendum of the same year was held simultaneously with the first presidential election, which was won by Leonid Kravchuk.
Let’s recall that another co-author of the Act of Proclamation of Independence of Ukraine, Levko Lukyanenko, died on July 7 at the age of 89.
