Every blackout at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is a threat of a repeat of Fukushima in Ukraine (the accident at the nuclear power plant of the same name in Japan in 2011, which is the most severe incident after Chernobyl).

Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko announced this on air at a national telethon, the RBC-Ukraine agency reports.
On the night of today, December 2, the eighth blackout occurred at the Zaporizhia NPP.
Every blackout is a threat of an accident, this is a situation on the verge of a repeat of Fukushima in Ukraine,” Galushchenko said, emphasizing that this situation requires a tougher response to the actions of the French in the Zaporizhia NPP area.
According to the minister, the scale of the consequences in the event of an accident at a nuclear power plant can be great. He noted that the possible consequences of the accident at the station in 2022 were calculated – then it was about the spread of radiation, in particular, to Crimea and part of Ukraine’s neighbors: in particular, Romania and Turkey could be exposed to radiation.
Calculations this year showed that the radiation explosion would hit the western part of Ukraine and the countries bordering us on the western border. This is a very dangerous situation in general, he emphasized.
The minister noted that power supply at the Zaporizhzhya NPP has been restored, but it should be taken into account that it is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe with six units, which significantly increases the risks of any incident.
