This was reported on November 27 by The Wall Street Journal, citing Egyptian and Qatari officials.
As the publication recalls, both sides publicly agreed to extend the agreement, under which Hamas pledged to release 50 Israelis taken hostage in exchange for 150 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.
According to WSJ, the parties are now discussing the possibility of extending the deal for another four days or less. As part of this agreement, the publication’s sources say, Hamas may release at least 20 women and children held hostage. At the same time, Egyptian officials clarify that after the dismissal of all women and children, priority will be given to older men, and then the release of the bodies of the dead, since Hamas has so far ruled out the possibility of dismissing young Israeli men.
The continuation of the operation, according to US Presidential Adviser Jake Sullivan, now depends on Hamas, since Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already announced his condition – the release of ten hostages for each additional day of the truce. At the same time, the group has not yet provided a list of those it is ready to fire, WSJ sources clarify.
Since November 24, Hamas has already released three groups of hostages as part of a four-day truce. A total of 39 Israelis and 19 foreigners were fired during the operation. In turn, Israel released 117 Palestinian prisoners.
In total, Hamas militants who attacked Israel on October 7 captured about 240 people.
On November 27, the last four-day truce between Israel and Hamas began.
