Attack UAVs from the Kursk region of Russia flew straight to Kyiv, while others, from the south-eastern direction, flew and circled. They were waiting for other drones from Kursk to strike the capital at the same time. Press Secretary of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Yuriy Ignat stated this on air at the national telethon.
66 is, in fact, the Kiev region. But the rest were flying in and on the way they were destroyed by the Defense Forces in the south and east of our state,” he said.
Ignat also noted the effectiveness of mobile fire teams in the fight against attack drones. Tonight these groups destroyed about 40% of the total number of Shaheds.
This time we want to thank the mobile fire teams. This is the advanced echelon, which is entrusted with the task in most cases of shooting down these attack UAVs in order to reduce the amount of consumption of our anti-aircraft guided missiles,” he noted.
The airmen emphasized that that night the enemy launched a record number of attack UAVs into Ukraine. Previously, the record attack for the number of drones was New Year’s Eve, when the Russians launched 45 attack drones.
Let us recall that on the night of November 25, the Russian army launched 75 attack drones from Primorsko-Akhtarsk and the Kursk region of Russia, but the air defense forces worked flawlessly – they destroyed 74 out of 75 UAVs. Over the Kiev region alone, 66 Russian drones were destroyed at night.
