The country opposes the introduction of restrictions on the supply of nuclear fuel from Russia as part of the 12th package of EU sanctions.
Slovakia will oppose the European Union’s 12th package of sanctions against Russia if it includes a ban on the import of Russian nuclear fuel. This is what the country’s Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar said, TARS reports.
According to him, the new EU sanctions against the Russian Federation should not be applied to fuel from nuclear power plants, because Slovak nuclear power plants have not yet been converted to use other fuels. For the Slovak government this issue is very critical.
The representative of the Progressive Slovakia party, Tomas Valasek, also emphasized that if the sanctions concern the import of nuclear fuel from the Russian Federation, any Slovak government will veto the package.
Let’s remember that on November 15, the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, together with the European Commission, presented to the member states a proposal for 12 packages of sanctions against Russia. The next package includes personal sanctions, economic and sectoral restrictions.
How strong will the new package be against Russia?
