Helsinki will not extradite representatives of the PKK and Fethullah Gülen Movement to Ankara.
Finnish authorities have refused to extradite the Kurds, whom Turkey considers terrorists, which is Turkey’s condition for the country’s entry into NATO. On Saturday, June 11, according to Yle.
It was noted that in early June, the Finnish Ministry of Justice received ten requests from Turkey for the extradition of representatives of the PKK and the Fethullah Gülen Movement. At the same time, Finland was satisfied with only two cases in which people were not accused of terrorism. Both cases involve sexual offenses.
According to the publication, Turkey also demanded that Finnish authorities extradite a man convicted of arson at the embassy in Helsinki.
It was previously reported that Turkey has set conditions for Sweden and Finland to join NATO. Both countries must keep their distance from terrorist organizations and support Ankara in the fight against terrorism.
It will be recalled that former Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey would not change its position upon Sweden and Finland’s entry into NATO. The Turkish side will not give its consent until the Scandinavian countries refuse to cooperate with PKK representatives.
