The American leader believes that restoring military ties is in the interest of US national security.
US President Joe Biden will try to restore military ties with China. This is the top agenda item for Biden’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on November 15. White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan announced this on Sunday, November 12, Reuters wrote.
“The President is committed to reopening military-to-military relations because he believes it is in the national security interest of the United States. We need those lines of communication to ensure there are no mistakes, miscalculations or misunderstandings ,” Sullivan said.
He added that it is about renewing military cooperation at all levels – from senior leadership to the tactical operational level, as well as “in the water and in the air in the Indo-Pacific region.”
“The Chinese basically cut those communication links. President Biden wants to restore them,” Sullivan added.
Note that Biden will meet personally with Chinese President Xi Jinping for the first time in a year during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco. This will be the second face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since Biden took office in January 2021.
According to media reports, Joe Biden and Xi Jinping will meet in San Francisco at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, which will be held on November 11-17.
